Three Reasons Why Online News Sites are Replacing Newspapers

Anyone picking up a newspaper for the first time in a while is likely to be surprised by how thin today's papers have become. Since the late 1990's, most newspapers have been in decline, with shrinking advertising and falling readership. Fortunately, new forms of media are filling the void in order to enable people to get the news in a post-paper world. Here's why they are succeeding while newspapers fade:

More Youth Oriented - The majority of today's newspaper readers are over 40 years old. Younger people use the internet to gain easy access to far more news sources than any single newspaper can provide.

More Relevant - Newspapers are designed to appeal to a mass audience. However, the internet alternative makes it possible for journalists to target the news precisely to whatever audience they want to reach. It also provides readers with whatever news they feel is most relevant to what they need to get informed about.

Less Expensive - Newspapers are seldom free. Yet, much of the news sites on the web offer their info at no cost to anyone except those who advertise on the site. As the saying goes, "No one can compete with free."

It is unlikely that newspapers will ever completely disappear, although ultimately perhaps only the biggest names will survive. The good news is that an ever blossoming garden of alternative online news sites are rapidly filling the gap.

Alta Moda Ferrales: Friends Hosted Tribute Fashion Show of Ferrales' Timeless Classics

Last January 31, I was invited to Alta Moda Ferrales.  It is a grand fashion show of Ben Ferrales' Timeless Classics staged by his friends at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangrila Hotel. 

The grand fashions how led by Dr. Milagros Ong-How, a business woman and agriculture advocate featured 70 to 90 of the works of Ben Ferrales.  

It was opened by the performance of the Angeles University Foundation Choir and Dance Troupe.  Then, it featured a short biography of Ben Ferrales' and his more than 50 years of discipline and dedication to the Philippine fashion scene.  

The fashion show was divided into three parts.  It featured the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra led by conductor Oliver Ochanine.

There first part "Pais Tropicale" highlights Island-Living fashion.  There were resort collections from swimsuits to lounge wear as well as cocktail outfits inspired by tropical island moods.
  

The Moda Maynila part showed exquisite yet simple draped gowns printed with fluid lines.  It was famous for being chic, contemporary and cosmopolitan-styled fashion.

The last part is the Farrales Filipiniana that consists of Muslim-inspired gowns, traditional ternos and Maria Claras. 

The show ended with two wedding dresses as a finale

Around 30 models and beauty queens like Justine Gabionza, April Love Jordan, Maricarl Tolosa, Jennifer Barrientos, Stephanie Malibiran, Aya Abesamis, JP Abinuman Cox, Patty Bettita, Gem Padilla, Sara Jane Paez, Izza Gonzalez, Marina Benipayo, Annette Coronel,  Suyen Chi and Dez Verdadero. 

Proceeds of the show was donated to "Mang Ben's" foundation, the Congregacion Del Santisimo Nombre Del Niño Jesus.  

It was a night of great food, beautifully dressed distinguished guests who are friends and family of friends of Ben Ferrales.   I was so touched especially when I saw Mang Ben in tears.  I also met a lot of great people.  Could you believe that I was in the same table as Mr. Edgar Allan of Edgar Allan Boutique found in Glorietta 1 level 3?  He was so nice to initiate a conversation to this shy lady too. ;)

Vikings Luxury Buffet Opens at SM City BF Parañaque

Good news Southerners, SM City BF Parañaque is now open.  It is conveniently and strategically located at the entrance of BF Homes along Dr. Sixto Avenue.  The mall has it's spacious basement parking area, large SM Supermarket, Cyberzone and tons of shops and restaurants.

I was among the many who were eager to try the new Viking SM City BF Parañaque.

Like the other Viking branches I've tried (Viking SM MOA and SM Megamall), this is has a luxurious and elegant ambiance coupled with a sumptuous variety of international dishes.  There's an al fresco area too.

There are numerous stations spread over the side and the center.

Ranging from appetizers such as cold cuts, cheese...

salads...

sashimi...

sushi...

maki,

Chinese cold cuts,

and dimsum.

Even the staples have more than one variant.

There are many kinds of soup as well.

Main dishes are interesting like the Black Palabok and Pata Tim.

There have Korean and even Middle Eastern.

Dishes are served warm and the meat are all tender too.

There are many steaks and roastings to choose from: lamb, chicken, steak and pork.

There's a DIY shabu-shabu too.

In addition, you can also have seafood grilled upon request too.

There's Sukiyaki too!
